Expectations were set high for the release of Batman v Superman. Unfortunately, it didn’t meet those expectations. Reviewers deemed it the most “incoherently structured blockbuster in years.”
Zack Snyder was caught off guard by all the negative reviews. He knew he had to do something to adjust The Justice League. “I have had to, in my mind, make an adjustment. I do think that the tone of Justice League has changed because of what the fans have said.”
Snyder adjusted and invited Journalists to set. He invited them to watch a few scenes, which is a strange occurrence. Deborah Snyder, producer and Zack’s wife, adds, “The main thing we learned, I think: People don’t like seeing their heroes deconstructed.”
Those who were on set did admit that it seems more lighthearted than BvS. The initial interaction between Batman and the Flash is reminiscent of the interaction between Iron Man and Spiderman.
I think that … Listen. If it’s about putting more fun in the movie, or embracing some of what I would call … I think it’s in all the characters inherently, this larger than life, big, fun stuff, especially when you’re dealing with the Justice League. Flash and with Momoa. I don’t have a scene with Momoa, but I’ve been now with Jason and the way he’s interacting with the group and it’s even just his Jason-ness. It’s the contrast to Ben and to Gal, is really interesting and fun. [x]
With Ray Fisher, Ezra Miller, and Jason Momoa joining the cast, it will change the dynamic of the film.
The DC universe is trying its best to compete with the Marvel universe. The Nolan Batman trilogy was successful on creating a dark, angsty Batman but Snyder missed the mark when it came to Superman. Suicide Squad had some reshoots, as well, to highlight the humorous sides of these villains.
An extended Director’s cut of Batman v Superman was released this week and some people’s minds are changing. This version was Snyder’s intended theatrical version. This does give hope for Justin League.
